Underfloor Heating Screed

Screed for underfloor heating floors.

Screed supply for wet underfloor heating systems in extensions, renovations and new builds across Doncaster and surrounding areas.

Wet underfloor heating systems are normally covered with a screed, which protects the pipes and spreads heat across the floor. The screed type, depth and drying procedure all affect how well the floor performs, so it is worth planning the screed at the same time as the heating system.

Which screed for underfloor heating?

Both liquid screed and traditional sand and cement screed are used over underfloor heating. Liquid screed flows around the pipework, which helps to avoid air gaps, and can often be laid at a reduced depth compared with traditional screed, subject to the product and specification. Traditional screed may suit smaller areas or particular floor finishes. Follow the specification from your heating designer or flooring contractor.

Depth over the pipes

Minimum cover over the pipes depends on the screed product and whether the floor is bonded, unbonded or floating. Your heating supplier or screed installer should confirm the depth. This depends on the product and your design – we confirm when we quote.

Before the screed arrives

  • Pipework fixed securely so it cannot float in liquid screed
  • Pipes pressure tested and left under pressure during screeding where specified
  • Edge insulation fitted to all walls and fixtures
  • Membrane laid and sealed
  • Levels marked and doorways dammed
  • Access for the delivery vehicle and any pump confirmed

Drying and commissioning

Underfloor heating is normally used to help dry the screed only after an initial curing period, following a gradual heat-up schedule set by the screed and heating manufacturers. Do not fit floor finishes until moisture tests show the screed is dry enough for the chosen finish.
